VILLAGE GREEN
TUFTS MEMORIAL PARK | pinehurst, NC

James W. Tufts Memorial Park, also known as the Village Green, originally conceived in Fredrick Law Olmsted’s original master plan, is in the heart of the Pinehurst Village Center. The park features an open green space with benches and pincnic tables around the perimeter, integrated into the surroundings. Tufts Park is an excellent venue for community gatherings and special events. KoontzJones Design worked with the Village of Pinehurst to design and construct the park, which was once a sand parking lot and turned it into a vibrant social gathering spaces for community events. The park hosts the popular Pinehurst Live After 5 concert series, a weekly farmer’s market, a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a July 4th Parade, Shakespeare in the Pines, Oktoberfest, US Kid’s Golf Parade, Sandhills Motoring Festival, and Christmas Tree Lighting event. In addition, the park is used as a broadcast backdrop during the Men’s US Open golf tournament, which is held frequently at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 golf course.
