SCHOONER BAY | ABACO, BAHAMAS

Schooner Bay was envisioned to provide residents with more than one place to visit; it was intended to become away of life. Located in a remote area of Abaco Island, this development was designed to provide basic needs and resort experiences for its residents and guests. Schooner Bay offers a small commercial village center, with restaurants, retail shops and lodging opportunities located along a marina featuring a pedestrian promenade park.Incorporated into the design, a protected parrot flyway was utilized to create a community open space with trails, outdoor amenities, and recreational opportunities. Further inland, KoontzJones designed a community village with a large open lawn for farmers’ markets, a natural terraced amphitheater for outdoor concerts, and open space set aside for farms and orchards to develop a sustainable ‘farm-to-table’ food source.
